Joe Public

Reception & Waiting Area

As you enter the reception, the waiting area and spacious canteen opens before you. The use of timber was part of the brief and plays off of the polished concrete flooring throughout the building.

Coffee Area & Break Away Areas

Behind the reception the coffee area is open to employees and guests and can be used as an informal meeting area.

A communication staircase is at the center of the building and allows free flow between floors. The staircase is an architectural detail that is enhanced by the atrium in the center of the building.

Formal & Casual Meeting Rooms

Using new and existing furniture from Joe Public’s previous offices we were able to bring in different styled meeting rooms.

The Boardroom had to be a show stopper. This is where deals are made. The final design of the table was a simple glass top suspended above a 7m long tree trunk bolted together with industrial metal elements.

Leather and metal details can be seen in the chairs and the table base. The artist who created the table incorporated the power sets into the tree trunk with leather details.

60% of the seating for the canteen is below the atrium. The custom table tops are made out of up-cycled scaffolding planks with hand painted chevron detail.

Outdoor Areas

The client often has large events so the canteen was designed to open up onto a large courtyard. There is an additional roof area with cafe seating and a Porky Heffer Nest suspended from the roof trusses which is a perfect hideaway from the hustle and bustle of the office.

Furniture into Office Areas

Acoustic sofas were positioned as quick breakaway spots also bringing in pattern to a simple interior. 60% of the desking was by a South African designer and was a perfect match to Joe Public’s existing desking.
